Cell Shading Coloring Tutorial by begger4mcgregor Cell Shading Coloring Tutorial by begger4mcgregor
The coloring half of my promised tutorial. I'm sure this one is even more confusing and long-winded than the line-art one. Sorry guys, I really did try. (If you can't tell this is an area I have 0 confidence in). Hope this helps someone. Comment here with any questions/comments/concerns ;P

Full view to see the tutorial. It's a huge picture, so beware!

Also, yes, I did change the shading for his hair after making this tutorial, but since the point was how to make the lines, not how to position them, I saw no need to go back and change it. Plus it would have been a bitch to do, and I'm lazy.

I like the two tutorials, they cover the basics in their simplicity and beauty whilst the others i've seen show highly advanced drawings and shading that less talented people can't follow. It's easy to follow and understand, thank you.

This and your line art tutorial is great. I had no idea how to do this before and I understand it now. I already knew how to use the pen tool from my graphics class at school, we used illustrator there and the pen too is the same. Pretty obvious to use that, but I'm clueless I guess. haha. Thanks for these. I'm going to try and do something complete like this soon.

Maa~ I'd liked to have seen that Hitsugaya piece you used after it was all clean, colored, and finished~

Hey, I love this tutorial and I think it's fantastic... something that might save you time -- and if it's been said then I apologize -- near the end when you talk about using the magic wand and the paint bucket to fill in areas but you still have to fill in the edges by hand... there's a way to fix that! ^^

See, you use the wand tool just like you said to select the area you want filled in with color, and the selection you've made will be smaller than the actual area you want filled, so you go to the select > modify > EXPAND -- from here you can type in how many pixels you need to expand it by (one does it just fine for me every time) if you do it by just one, the selection should end up in the middle of the line rather than the edge, giving you the opportunity to paint bucket it safely and not have to mess with the edges at all, because your nice smooth pen line is still the edge!

Anyways... I can't wait to try this out!

DAMMIT I AM EPICFAIL. Not only did I say the same thing the guy before me did, it had to be just one comment ahead of me. Just one. I couldn't even be bothered to read the comments before I posted mine. I'm sorry. But yes, this is available in CS2 aka Photoshop 7.

I know this is years old but you know your "magic lasso" explanation, well in CS3 you can go to "SELECT" "MODIFY" "EXPAND" and expand so you don't have to color in the edges after you bucket your lasso area. Not sure if they have that in 7, haven't used 7 in a looooong time.

Random tips I learned after using this tut:

Select - Modify - Expand (1, 2 px) after magic lasso-ing it often takes away that edge thing.
(Might have to fill more then once, though, to get color in the line.)

wow! cool! question... do you need to use some pen and tablet device for tracing and coloring??? bec. those things just strain my eyesss!! O_o
anyway do adobe photoshop 7 and CS2 have the same attributes??
lol so much questions!
hope you can answer soon!

For my tutorials you just need a mouse. You can use a tablet if you wish but the results will be the same as using a mouse. I use the "Pen tool" in PS with my mouse the do line art and color. When I find time I will be updating the tutorial so it's a bit more clear. As for PS 7 vs. CS2, they work the same for what I do in the tutorial. I've only used CS2 once, so I don't know what else is different, but I know the pen tool works the same.

Actually, you don't have to color the edges by hand. When you still have the selection, go to
Select>modify>expand
and all your troubles will be gone! ^^
